Thove is a nutritious dish made from toor dal. This is a very auspicious dish among Brahmins. When the food served according to an order,this dish is served on top of rice, next ghee is dropped on it and only after this people will start to eat.
INGREDIENTS:
Toor dal - 1/2 Cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Green chili - 2 or 3
Ginger - small piece
Hing - pinch
Coconut milk - 1/8 cup
Salt to taste
For seasoning:
Ghee - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
Red chili - 1
Curry leaves
METHOD:
1. Wash the Toor dal well and pressure cook dal with sufficient water.
2. Add chopped ginger, salt, hing, green chili and coconut milk.
3. In a pan heat ghee and add the mustard seeds, when they splutter add urad dal, curry leaves and broken red chilies and toss them.
4. Add this seasoning to the dal. Serve hot with rice.
