MILK TEA/ PAAL CHAYA

In India, tea is a very popular beverage and Indians love their cup of tea. The importance of tea drinking in India cannot be confined to words, they have their cup of hot steaming tea first thing in the morning in order to stimulate their senses and refresh themselves.

Most of them drink tea with milk and sugar. Traditionally, a guest in any Indian home is welcomed with a cup of tea.

India is the world’s largest producer of tea and the three prominent tea-growing regions in India are Darjeeling, Assam and Nilgiri.

International tea day is observed annually on May 21.

A strong, steamy cup of tea/chaya is one of the first things I am making everyday. Chaya is one of those recipes where every household has their own version. There are many ways to make a cup of chaya, but listed below is how my family enjoy the tea.

INGREDIENTS:

Water - 1 cup
Tea powder - 2 tsp
Milk - 1 cup
Sugar - 2 tsp

METHOD:

1. Heat the tea pot with 1 cup of water.

2. Once the water starts boiling add 2 tsp of tea powder.

3. Let it boil for a couple of minutes.

4. Add 1 cup of milk.

5. Let it boil for 4-5 minutes or until milk boils. Switch off the flame.

6. Strain the tea to another vessel and add sugar. Stir it.

7. Pour the tea from the vessel into the cup as high as possible. This improves the flavor of the tea and make the tea more bubbly.

8. Serve hot........
